Kirkwood House is a delightful Victorian house set in a well-tended garden. The house is both comfortable and inviting as a bed & breakfast. We cater for everyone from the very young to the elderly and offer friendly family-run service. Our bedrooms are all tastefully decorated and offer complimentary tea and coffee making facilities and a daily cleaning service. Kirkwood House has been awarded four stars by VisitBritain and enjoys a continued popularity due to its cleanliness, hospitality, location and overall quality. We are located on Chesterton Road which is part of Cambridge ring-road making journeys by car, taxi or one of the frequent buses very easy. We are also very close to the river, alongside which a short stroll will get you to the city centre. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated in a traditional style, but with a modern feel in pine and warm colours. All rooms are well-proportioned and equipped, all are en-suite and all have colour TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Our rooms are fully centrally heated. Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor (enabling us to accommodate prams, pushchairs and the elderly). The rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels and hospitality trays provided. Each room comes complete with hairdryer, soaps and shower gels, luggage holders and radio alarm clock. Free wireless Internet access is also provided in all our rooms. Some rooms are located at the rear of the property. A payphone is available in reception alongside a wide selection of maps and pamphlets. An iron is available on request. We offer bed & breakfast accommodation and we are situated in our own extensive grounds, set well back from the road behind a red brick wall, complete with mature gardens and duck pond, the home of our nimental ducks. The house, built in the 1930s, has been completely modernised and refurbished in Dorset cottage style, with open fireplaces, and wooden beams, which lend the house a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Just a short journey from the village, visitors can see Audley End, a fine Jacobean house,Wimpole Hall Country House and Home Farm, the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, Linton Zoo and for the racing enthusiast, Newmarket racecourse and stud. The famous Gog Magog golf course is only one and a half miles away from Dorset House. The university city of Cambridge offers the visitor many remarkable sights and leisure facilities; colleges, museums, theatres, art galleries, churches, parks and gardens. Annual events include the Cambridge Arts and Folk festivals, Midsummer Fair and the famous 'Bumps' rowing race on the Cam. The Alexander Bed and Breakfast is run by Mr and Mrs Beesley-Schuster from their family home, a Victorian house located in a quiet residential area of central Cambridge. Their extremely central location, near the city centre and train and bus stations, makes it an ideal place to stay whether working, studying, or visiting the city and outlying attractions. Early booking is essential. Minimum two-night stay required. We have two en-suite rooms, one twin room (two beds) and one double room (one large bed). Single occupancy of a room is occasionally possible, particularly for longer stays. Our en-suite rooms are light and centrally-heated. They each have a colour television, a radio/alarm, an iron, a hairdryer, and tea and coffee making facilities. For guests who wish to stay for a week or longer we are happy to do their laundry at no extra cost. Use of home telephone possible. On arrival, guests are provided with a key to the house, allowing them free access to the house at any hour. St Barnabas Road is located in a quiet residential area of Cambridge within a few minutes walking distance of both the train and coach stations. We are within easy walking distance of the Cambridge City Centre with its wonderful university buildings, churches, museums, and the River Cam with its punting trips! We are also within walking distance of Anglia Polytechnic University, the modern Grafton Shopping Centre, and the Warner Brother Cinema Complex. A local swimming pool and fitness center is only five minutes away on foot. There are many direct bus links to Addenbrookes Hospital and the outskirts of Cambridge which run from the nearby station. We do offer parking for those who arrive by car. But the only sensible way to get around and about Cambridge is by bike or on foot. Bicycles can be rented locally from many shops for any length of time from a day to a few months! Theatres, cinemas, and night clubs in town offer plenty to do in the evenings. Cambridge is full of interesting shops, pubs, and restaurants - both old and new. Mill Road, located at the end of St. Barnabas Road, is lively, multicultural, and cosmopolitan area.
