Cape Clear Island is Ireland's most southerly island. It is a 45min boat trip from Baltimore or Schull in West Cork. The island is 3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide and has a population of 120 persons.It is a gaeltacht island - the first language is Irish. Because of its southerly position, the climate is milder than mainland Ireland. It is also a noted pardise for bird watchers boasting Ireland's only manned observatory. Cape Clear Cottages are located in the harbour area convenient to the ferries, bureau de change, shops,craft outlets, restaurants and pubs. We are ideally located for touring the Cork, Kerry & Limerick areas of Ireland. Children are most welcome & we accept well behaved dogs & other pets too. Whether it is a business trip, a family holiday, short break or just a single night stopover on the way back to the airport you will be assured of a peaceful &enjoyable stay. We are located 2.5 miles from Newmarket, a small but lively town with plenty of shops, pubs, a couple of places to eat out & a small children's play area. Meelin, the highest Irish village, is a five minute drive away. Here you will find a restored kiln. Meelin & the surrounding area were renouned for lime extraction. It is said the lime from Meelin was used in the construction of St Finbarr's cathedral in Cork City. Kanturk is located 5 miles from Newmarket, it has several good restaurants & many bars, a 3 screen cinema, a ruined castle & a beautiful riverside park with a children's play area. Nearby, for a family day out is Liscarrol Donkey Sanctuary (free entry) where you can stroke the friendly donkeys. Near Castleisland are the spectacular Crag Caves which now have a restaurant, gift shop & a large ball pond play area for children. Fly fishing for brown trout is available on the local rivers, day tickets are available. We have a large drying room for wet clothes in case it happens to rain! There are several new Waymarked Walking Trails within a 20 minute drive - maps available We are open all year except Christmas and New Year weeks. We have two guest bedrooms :- Firstly a spacious groundfloor (downstairs) room with king-size bed, en-suite bathroom, walk-in- wardrobe & easy chair. It is especially suited to less able bodied or elderley guests who might have difficulty managing stairs. Upstairs we have an equally large family room with 3 single beds, again en-suite. A campbed can be incorporated in either room to sleep a total of 6 guests. Both rooms have scenic views, remote control colour TV, tea & coffee making facilities, dressing table, alarm clock radio and hospitality tray. Leaflets and information about local attractions are provided in the rooms. Ample off road parking for 4 guest cars. A hairdryer and ironing facilities are freely available. For a small charge we offer internet access, a laundry service and the provision of packed lunch menu is available. Ballinadee is perfectly situated for exploring West Cork; just 15 minutes drive from Kinsale, the gourmet capital of Ireland and a pretty fishing village. There are many Historic sites to see and miles of scenic country lanes to explore. The bustling market town of Bandon is just a 10 minute drive. There are eight 18 hole golf courses within 45 minutes drive. River fishing is available on the river Bandon and sea angling can be arranged at the Old Head of Kinsale or in Kinsale itself. Sailing, windsurfing and canoeing are also available in Kinsale and at Garrettstown beach. Cork Airport is just a 30 minute drive away. Just 30 minutes from Cork airport, 15 minutes from Kinsale and 10 minutes from Bandon - a central location to tour the wonderful West Cork area. We supply linen, towels, maid-service and cots if needed. Advance grocery shopping can also be arranged. At present there are six en suite bedrooms in Glebe Country House. They are on three floors. The three on the top have colour themes, Blue Room, Indigo Room and Green Room. The Rose Room is on the first floor and has french doors to the garden. The two on the ground floor are named after trees the Yew Room and the Oak Room. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and crisp white bed linen and towels. There is a large drawing room with bay window and open fire, an interesting selection of books are scattered about to make this the ideal spot to relax in after a days touring. The dining room is ideal for interesting conversation as guests dine together in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. At Glebe House we pride ourselves on producing an interesting and innovative breakfast. We provide home made brown and white soda bread, home made jams, locally produced honey and smoked bacon. Orange juice is always freshly squeezed. We ask guests to help themselves to cereal, fruit, organic yoghurt and prunes from the sideboard.
