Situated in its own grounds with a sunny south facing aspect, Furzeleigh Mill, formerly a corn mill built in the 16th Century, has been carefully converted to a comfortable country hotel, privately owned and personally run, where you are always assured of a very warm welcome. The hotel is now a listed building of historical interest.
All 15 attractively furnished and well decorated bedrooms overlook the beautiful River Dart valley, have ensuite facilities, remote control TV’s and beverage tray.
Buckfastleigh is situated halfway between Exeter & Plymouth with Torbay 12 miles to the east, we are on the border of Teignbridge and South Hams. We have a range of attractions such as Butterflies, Otters, River Dart, Dartmoor, Steam Trains, Buckfast Abbey and Good Food. We also have the bones in our Holy Trinity Churchyard of the Cabell family reputed to be from Arthur Conan Doyle's "Hound of the Baskervilles" one of the stories of Sherlock Holmes. South Dartmoor is full of mystery and suspicion.
Our food is all freshly cooked & we have an excellent selection of Bar food & Restaurant meals together with our ‘Chef’s Specials’ board, all served at lunch time & in the evening. There is also a small private dining room for parties up to 20.
All our food is prepared to a very high standard by our Chef de Cuisine using only the best fresh local produce & menu’s can be created to suit the most discerning of palettes.
Many guests retire to the bar after their meal for coffee or a drink. A cosy well stocked bar adjoins the Mill Room restaurant, it is licensed for guest and their friends whom we welcome. The western parts of our country are richer in legend than any other part. Perhaps this is because of the Celtic love of poetry and symbolism inherent in the blood of the people of the West; perhaps because of inspiration drawn from the wild hills and bleak moors of the lands in which they live; perhaps because life is, and always was, quieter there, and people have more time to remember the tales of other days than in busier, more prosaic, districts.
Furzeleigh Mill is situated close to the ancient stannery towns of Ashburton and Buckfastleigh, midway between the city of Exeter with its magnificent Cathedral and the modern city of Plymouth with the Hoe and its historic maritime associations. It is in an area of the Dartmoor National Park with unrivalled scenery, where the fields give way to the high open moor, a paradise for those who wish to ride, walk, fish or admire the many picturesque beauty spots ... Dartmeet, Widecombe in the Moor, Becky Falls, Fingle Bridge, Hexworthy, Haytor Rocks, Lustleigh Cleave, Postbridge and many others.
