Mariners Hotel, Lyme Regis, Dorset

Lyme Regis is undoubtedly one of England’s most precious pockets of nature and a place simply filled to the brim with charm and beauty. Blessed with breathtaking coastlines and countryside, which are among the finest to be discovered anywhere in the world, the region is perhaps most famed for its geology and magnificent fossil finds. A visit to this magical destination, with its rich and compelling history, will thoroughly delight you with one enchanting experience after another. Officially designated as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, every day brings the promise of a new adventure, and the whole place is sure to keep you enthralled for however long you stay. The quaint and captivating essence of Lyme Regis is perfectly embodied in the Mariners Hotel. Formerly a Coaching Inn, this charismatic 17th century building has been lovingly renovated to showcase everything that makes this part of the country so special. The hotel is a true celebration of interior design, where old meets new and contemporary fittings and the latest technology blend seamlessly with majestic period features. There are 14 comfortable guest rooms – all en-suite – and many boast inspiring views of the sea. The building is drenched in a rich and absorbing history. Beatrix Potter was inspired to write ‘The Tale of Little Pig Robinson’ while staying at the hotel when she was just 17. And many of her illustrations in the book are based on the spectacular scenery she encountered while visiting Lyme Regis and the neighbouring towns and regions. Beatrix Potter isn’t the only historically important figure to have stayed in the hotel. In 1805 the three Philpot sisters moved to the area and lived in the building while collecting fossils, for which they later became famous. They were great friends with Mary Anning – probably the most renowned female geologist of all time and there is now a museum in the town dedicated to their discoveries. Nestled in the heart of the town, the Mariners Hotel is the perfect place to relax, unwind and plan your exploration of Lyme Regis and the surrounding region. Whether you are looking for a couple of easy-going days, or maybe a longer-term holiday, the hotel and its staff will go to every possible length to ensure that your stay is one to cherish and remember. So why not plan a visit? We hope it will be one of many. Rates : From £95 per room per night based on two people sharing. Children are welcome. No smoking. Sorry, no pets. WiFi access.
