Located in the idyllic village of Aberlady, East Lothian, near Edinburgh, Kilspindie House, former hotel, is now a restaurant with rooms. Bed & Breakfast is also offered in Ducks 23 en-suite bedrooms and two restaurants. The rooms at Ducks are all en-suite and most have both baths and showers. The flatscreen TVs all have freeview and an alarm facility. Since taking over we have refurbished all the carpets, curtains, lighting, showers and retiled all the bathroom floors. Free Wifi is available in all rooms. Most rooms can be made into either twins or doubles for single or twin occupancy*. We have three single rooms. Room 38, the Butler Suite has a four poster and is very popular with newly weds; Mr Butler and Fosy! Aberlady is the ideal base for exploring all that Edinburgh and the Lothian’s have to offer: beautiful countryside, sandy beaches, historic buildings and a number of popular visitor attractions. Looking over the beautiful Bay which takes its name, Aberlady has always been a place of cultural and economic exchange. Its waters and sheltered location have been used by travellers and traders for centuries. Today, most of these travellers come to Aberlady to enjoy its hospitality, its good food, the magnificent links courses that lie to east and west, and the captivating natural environs of the village more generally. Less well known is its fantastically deep and rich history. If you wish to hear more about this, a talk and tour place is highly recommended. We are close to the Aberlady Bay bird sanctuary, East Fortune air museum housing Concorde, the Glenkinchie whiskey distillery, Scottish Seabird Centre and boat trips from North Berwick. A picture-book Georgian farmhouse hidden up a winding lane in the midst of fields and woods yet only minutes from the pubs, shops and sights of East Linton, a village beloved by artists for centuries. All the peace and quiet of the countryside with the culture and beauty of Edinburgh only 40 minutes drive away – or take the train or bus to avoid city parking nightmares. Ground Floor: 1 double room with a king-size bed. The bathroom is ensuite with bath, cabinet power-shower, WC and hand-basin. There are views over the garden, a TV with DVD player and a tea and coffee tray. First floor: 1 room with twin beds, which can ‘zip and link’ to become a large double. The private bathroom is right next door (one step away) and has a bath with hand shower, WC and hand basin. This room has views over the fields and hills, TV with extra freeview channels and a tea and coffee tray. All rooms have wireless internet access. Breakfast: This is served in the pretty dining room, overlooking the hills and fields. Joanna offers home-prepared fruit salads and compôtes, cereals and fruit juice and her own special blend of porridge, followed by a freshly-cooked Scottish breakfast of egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, tomato, mushroom and fried potato, or the combination of your choice. Tea, coffee or chocolate accompanied by hot toast and marmalade or jam complete the meal. The freshest of eggs come from the local farm shop, where the hens scratch in outside runs, the bacon and sausages are the village butcher’s own make and the award-winning black pudding is from Stornoway – not local but very much worth the trip! Vegetarian and other special diets can be catered for and packed lunches provided with adequate notice. Guests are welcome to use the terrace and walled garden.
