The De Montfort, Loughborough, Leicestershire

The De Montfort is one of Loughborough's oldest hotels. This Victorian building still retains many original features. We have ten traditionally decorated rooms some with original cast iron fire places, most of which are en suite or have private facilities. All rooms have colour TV and hospitality trays.

Evening meals are available Monday to Thursday and weekends with prior arrangement at the nearby Peacock Inn which is also run by us.

We are situated within five minutes of the town centre and Great Central Steam Trust which is one of the country's leading attractions. The university, and Taylors Ball Foundry are close by. Prestwold Hall and Beaumanor Hall are ten minutes away.

A warm and friendly atmosphere guaranteed.

The beautiful Leicestershire countryside offers a wide variety of walks through local attractions such as Charnwood Forest, Beacon Hill and Bradgate Park, the birthplace of Lady Jane Grey (the nine day queen) to name but a few. For motoring and racing enthusiasts a visit to Castle Donnington Race Track and Museum is highly recommended.

Our hotel is named after the Frenchman Simon De Montfort, who came to England in 1229, favoured by Henry III he was made Earl of Leicester. In later years as King Henry strayed further from the Magna Carta, Simon and the King waged war upon each other.

On the 4th August 1265 Simon De Montfort was killed in battle at Evesham in Worcestershire. Simon was loved by the common people of England and although dead, his cause triumphed and he is known as the father of English Parliament.
