The Boars Head Hotel, Bishops Castle, Shropshire

The Boars Head is one of the earliest surviving buildings in Bishop·s Castle, which itself is a former borough and a market town of ancient foundation. The town takes its name from the Castle (of which little remains) built here in Norman times by the Bishops of Hereford who were Lords of the Manor.
Much of the original construction of the Inn remains today. The exposed beams are all genuine and the log fire warms the Bar on a winters evening. The Bar serves a selection of real ales, lagers, wines and spirits and is the focus for many of the town·s groups who hold regular meetings at the Inn.
Accommodation at the Boars Head is in the "Curly Tail" which has previously been used as the Stable Block for 16 horses, a bar and function room, but was converted in 1988 into four motel-style bedrooms. Every room has its own door at ground floor that opens onto the Inn·s car park and is fully equipped with en-suite bathroom, colour TV , tea and coffee tray and direct dial telephone. Indeed the Boars Head was the first accommodation establishment in Bishop·s Castle to offer all en-suite facilities. Wireless Broadband Facilities are also Available at the Inn.
