Welcome to The Three Tuns Hotel, situated in the heart of the picturesque old village of Ashwell, that was gifted by Edward the Confessor in 1066 to the Abbey of Westminster. This traditional country hotel, pub and restaurant dates back to 1701, built in the reign of Queen Anne, the last of the Stuart monarchs and was converted into a popular hostelry from 1806. Major refurbishment in late 2009 by the new owners has created a wonderful English hotel combining old fashioned dignity with modern comfort. DINING When you walk into the traditional lounge bar and restaurant you walk through hundreds of years of history. We can seat 62 people for dining and our extensive a-la-carte menu is changed daily. DRINKING Our large public bar has been completely refurbished and features leather sofas and pictures of Ashwell village scenes. The village was once a thriving market town and this brought wealth and prosperity. This is reflected in the quality of a number of the medieval buildings. In the 19th century three industries grew and changed the population of Ashwell. They were brewing, coprolite digging and straw plaiting. There are many interesting buildings in Ashwell ranging from the museum, Fordham’s brewery, the Lychgate, Mills, the Church with the highest spire in Hertfordshire, chapels and houses of all ages and periods. There are many great walks around Ashwell and the surrounding countryside or you can venture further a field to the historical city of Cambridge and punt along the “backs” or indulge in a spot of shopping.
