We are a traditional Country Hotel, Pub and restaurant situated in the heart of the village of Ashwell, Hertfordshire. We can trace the existing building back to 1806, but a public house is recorded as existing on this site in 1700. The pub today has two bars, a Lounge bar and a public bar and a large dining room and restaurant. The large garden at the rear has mature borders and offers a great space for relaxing with families in the summer, especially with the new childrens play area. The Patio to the left of our building brings an element of café culture to the village with continental style dining and socialising whilst watching the village pass by. The Hotel has 6 bedrooms with the Doubles having en-suite bathrooms. Room 2 has a four-poster bed and could be described as our honeymoon suite. They are all decorated in a country living style with many fine pieces of antique furniture. The Lounge bar is traditional in its décor and ambience and classical music is often played. The open fire, carpets and furniture add to the comfortable and relaxed feeling of this bar. It seats around 50 people for lunchtime and evening food or all day eating on Saturday, Sunday’s and Bank Holiday’s. Look out for the specials board and wine lists being displayed as you enter the bar. The dining room and restaurant is at the rear of the lounge bar and seats 40 people. The restaurants large bay window overlooks the hotel garden and we believe the room was originally the pub’s smoke house with rows of hanging hooks still visible in the beams. The toilets are located in what was once the pub’s wine cellar. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, Sky television, Teletext, telephones and free wireless internet connection. Rates : From £39 to £79 per room per night based on 2 people sharing. Children are welcome. No smoking. Pets are allowed. Off street parking. Dinner is available. Wi-fi/internet access. 3 Star VB.

Homewood, Old Knebworth, Hertfordshire

PR2S £80

HOMEWOOD has been a family home ever since it was built in 1901, for the Dowager Lady Lytton. It was designed for her by Edwin Lutyens, who would later become her son-in-law, when he married her younger daughter, Emily. His four children spent most of their holidays in this house, as their parents were either travelling or felt that the children would benefit from the country air. Consequently, the Lutyens family were always very fond of Homewood. After Lady Lytton’s death the house stayed in the family, usually rented out, until 1973 when it was sold to the Pollock-Hill family. Homewood has changed very little since it was built, however, it does have a few modern amenities, and a lot more bathrooms! We have ample parking in front of the house. We do not provide evening meals but we are happy to arrange bookings for dinner and taxis if required. We provide written instructions on how to get to the pubs and restaurants we recommend. The Wisteria : This suite is ideal for a family. Like all the rooms it is equipped with an ensuite bathroom but it is down a step from the two rooms in the suite and a door from the corridor allows you to close this section of the house off to give you your privacy. The second little room has two single beds while the Wisteria room has a kingsize bed. Library Corridor: The Library is another beautiful passage you will pass through if you stay in the Wisteria room The Yellow: This room has an ensuite shower room and a kingsize bed. Ensuite Yellow: This is the Yellow Room ensuite shower room. The Savannah: The Meerkats: Don’t be afraid, they are there to look after you and make you feel at home. Step behind this wall and you will find your ensuite bathroom. The Lion: He’s on the prowl, but only to ensure no one deprives you of a good night’s sleep. This room is the lightest in the house and the bamboo blinds, warm, desert colours and exciting mural and paintings on the walls emphasise this. Homewood is 25 miles from London, halfway between London and Cambridge. Hatfield House is close by and Knebworth house is only 10 minutes walk away. Homewood is also near Burghley, Woburn Abbey, Luton Hoo and many other places of interest. Stansted and Luton airports are within easy driving distance. Rates : £50 single occupancy. £80 per room per night based on 2 people sharing. From £100 per family room per night. Children are welcome. No smoking. Pets are allowed. Off street parking. Wi-fi/internet access.
