Ballyduff House, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny

Ballyduff House can be found approximately 3 km from Thomastown in County Kilkenny and is a classic Georgian country house with a 14th Century castle, steeped in Irish history and full of the warmest of welcomes. Ballyduff House was used as a location for the award winning film Circle of Friends and is located in ‘real Ireland’ where there are many calm, green and beautiful luscious views. Owner Brede Thomas is a wonderfully warm and vivacious host for whom nothing is too much trouble. A visit to Ballyduff House is an experience to treasure.

The River Nore sparkles as it runs along Ballyduff’s riverbank while sheep and cattle graze the pasture either side. Open fires, the book lined library and the comfortable guest bedrooms furnished with Irish antiques capture an early 18th Century experience tempered by discreet 21st century comfort.

The guest bedrooms at Ballyduff House have, as has the rest of the house, kept their original proportions. Spacious, comfortable and elegantly decorated, each of our guest rooms has its own charm. Depending on which room you have you are either looking out over the River Nore to the rear of the house, or over rolling parkland and gardens to the front and side of the house.

During their stay guests can also relax and unwind in our beautiful library or elegant drawing room.

There are many activities in the area to suit all tastes. Historically the area is famous for Fox hunting over the several hundred surrounding acres. Brede Thomas has been a host too many lawn meets for the Kilkenny Hunt which has been hunting the area for over two hundred years.

Any keen fishing enthusiast will also recommend the waters of the Nore for its excellent salmon and trout fishing. You can also go canoeing on the Nore. For the less adventurous there are many beautiful and scenic walks all around both Ballyduff and down the river in Inistioge, where one can explore the Woodstock estate and gardens. Golf and other activities can also be arranged.

Ballyduff House, as well as hosting weddings, is also the perfect settings for private parties, events, conferences, and social gatherings of any kind. Depending on the season, the use of the House together with the extensive and beautifully kept grounds and walled garden can make for a highly successful and memorable social engagement. Marquees, catering, floral display and transport to suit your needs for any occasion can be provided by prior arrangement.
