The Priory, Louth, Lincolnshire

Distance: Miles
Situated at the end of Eastgate, a few minutes stroll from Louth town centre, The Priory is a hidden treasure, combining genuine hospitality and high standards with a unique combination of history and architecture. A grade II listed building, The Priory was built in 1812 - 1818 from reclaimed masonry and decorative work and is a unique building for it's time being designed and built by Thomas Espin FSA, a schoolmaster, artist, mathematician and architect. He designed a new town hall (rebuilt at a much later date) and, instead of being paid a fee for his designs, he was gifted the masonry and materials from the ruins of the former Town Hall as well as the 12th Century Louth Park Abbey. Sadly Mr. Espin died in 1822 and is buried, at his wish in the former summer house next to the lake in the grounds of his beloved Priory. This building contains his tombstone and is a miniature version of the main house. The Priory was then run as a boys school known as the Academy for several decades and was then a private residence for many notable citizens of Louth. In 1977 it was converted into a hotel and has been known as the Priory Hotel since. Facilities: 10 en-suite bedrooms - including our bridal suite with gothic four poster bed and views of the gardens. The Library Bar - with original library shelves dates back to days when the Priory was a Boy's Academy and has a cosy old world ambience. Our Guest Lounge - gives visitors a welcoming home from home environment in which to relax. The Gothic Room - our function room can hold functions of up to 50 people for a seated reception or 100 for more informal buffets. It also has it's own bar and dance floor and can be hired exclusively to the rest of the property. The Gardens - comprise 3 acres of lawn and mature trees, a Victorian Folly, natural spring and a lake. You can also view Thomas Espin's former summerhouse, now Mausoleum, which shares its architectural inspiration with The Priory. Lincolnshire is a county renowned for producing wonderful food. With this in mind, Paul delights in preparing delicious dishes using mainly local and seasonal produce. We're proud to be accredited by tastes of Lincolnshire and to support producers of fine food in Louth Lincolnshire. Our restaurant, Serendipity, is open to residents for dinner on Monday to Saturday and non - residents Friday and Saturday nights (booking is essential). Rates : From £59 - £120 per room per night based on two people sharing. Children are welcome. No smoking. Pets allowed. WiFi access. Off street parking. Dinner available.
