At the north easterly edge of town is Sueno stone the largest known Pictish sculptured stone. Forres is an excellent base for touring the Scottish Highlands. It is home to two whisky distilleries, the Benromach Distillery and the Dallas Dhu distillery, which is part of the Malt Whisky Trail that runs throughout the Speyside region. Findhorn bay is close to Forres and is a popular centre for water sports, small boats, canoes and sailing craft. The bay is a local nature reserve popular with birdwatchers, the coastline is scattered with secluded sand dunes and beaches.
