Loch Ness ( loch Nis) is a large, deep, freshwater loch extending for approximately 37km (23 miles). Its surface is 15.8m (53 feet)above sea level. loch ness is best known for its world famous inhabitant NESSIE. Loch Ness is the second largest loch in scotland by surface area , but due to its great depth is the largest by volume.Its deepest point is deeper than the height of londons BT tower. It also contains more fresh water than all the lakes in england and wales combined. The only island on Loch Ness is Cherry Island, visable at its southwestern end, near Fort Augustus. It is a crannog, which is a form of artificial island.(Most crannogs were consturcted during the iron age). At Drumnadrochit is The Loch Ness Exhibition Centre which examines the controversy through the natural history of Loch Ness. Sheelagh and Dave welcome you to Greenlawns. The imposing Victorian building is to be found in the West End of Nairn offering easy access to the beach, the town centre and the golf courses. There are six en-suite bedrooms at Greenlawns. Three of these have bath tubs with showers over the bath, the remaining three rooms have shower cubicles. All rooms are individually and tastefully decorated to a high standard. Many of the furnishings in the rooms are beautiful antique pieces. Four rooms have zip and link beds which can provide either a king size (6 foot wide) double bed or two single beds (3 foot wide each). Recently upgraded double / twin has a walk in shower and large bath tub. The spacious, light, eclectic dining room is full of antiques and nic-naks collected over the years. Breakfasts and are served here at individual tables overlooking the lovely gardens. We have a high chair and a child's booster seat for use in the dining room. The spacious lounge is a wonderful space to relax in so you never need worry about what to do in the evenings. A wood burning stove adds warmth and ambuiance in the colder evenings. The proprietor is an amateur genealogist and for those residents interested in tracing their roots, help may be provided.
