Our successful family business has been established since 1981. We offer a friendly informal atmosphere in a wonderful, 200 year old former blacksmith's cottage which is full of charm, character and pretty décor complimented with our antique furniture. We are situated in a quiet but central location in Southwell within easy walking distance of all the local amenities which include restaurants, public houses, shops, tourist information office and of course the Minster. Our bedrooms provide firm beds, ensuite facilities, courtesy trays, colour TV and telephones. Breakfast - English or Continental. Southwell is a peaceful and charming Minster town with attractive restaurants, shops, coaching inns and period houses. The famous 12th century Minster is the most rural Cathedral in England. The Chapter House contains some of the finest stone carving in existence including the world renowned "Leaves of Southwell" There are several other attractions including The Workhouse owned by the National Trust situated on the outskirts of the town and the Saracens Head Inn where King Charles I is reputed to have spent his last night of freedom. A number of Heritage Trails around the town have links to the Civil War and other local historical connections. Southwell is also home to the famous Bramley Apple and nearby is the all weather racecourse and a number of golf courses. Also worth mentioning is our proximity to the Newark and Swinderby antique fairs which are held six times a year and attract dealers and collectors from far and wide. Crosshill House is a 200 year old refurbished cottage in Nottinghamshire, situated in the historic village of Laxton near Newark, in the heart of Robin Hood Country. We have five rooms for letting to our guests. They are named after the four historic open fields of Laxton and the view of the Church. All rooms are comfortably furnished and have their own en-suite facilities as well as refreshments, colour TV with Freeview etc. We pride ourselves in using local produce and free range eggs to prepare your full English breakfast to your requirements. Continental and healthy options are also available. Breakfast is served in the large, comfortable dining room at a time to suit you between 6.30am and 9.00am. We are happy to cater for special dietary requirements, but please discuss these with us when booking to ensure we have everything we need to serve an appropriate breakfast. Laxton itself is a popular destination for visitors interested in the history of the village, which is the last example in the country of a working three field strip farming system. Laxton's Court Leet is the last such court in the country which retains the jurisdiction to hear and determine legal proceedings. Laxton is also home to the best preserved motte and bailey castle in Nottinghamshire which is only a short walk from Crosshill House and most people can manage the walk up to the earth works, if not the climb to the top of the castle mound itself.
