The Old Smugglers Inn, Auchencairn, Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway

Auchencairn is a traditional Scottish village consisting mainly of stone houses dating from the early 17th century. It is located on the heritage coastline of the Solway Estuary, an area of unspoiled hills, cliffs, islands, bays and beaches known locally as the Scottish Riviera.
Our cosy establishment dating from the 17th century is located in a picturesque village on the Solway coast.
The public bar has a possibly unique feature, in that the bar counter is constructed from a rowing boat, that used to work in nearby Balcary Bay. It also features an open fire to relax by on winter nights and a seperate lounge and bar area.
Behind the pub is a large secluded beer garden that is bordered on one side by the Auchencairn Burn.
Since new management took over The Old Smugglers Inn at the end of May 2007 the pub has gone from strength to stength and is now offering excellent food and fine ales at realistic prices, in the restaurant and bar areas.
In addition there is comfortable bedroom accommodation, all with en-suite shower rooms and coffee/tea making facilities.
