The Sailmaker's Loft is a small family run bed & breakfast situated in the heart of the Old Town of Portsmouth in Hampshire.
The Sailmaker's Loft has a variety of rooms including a designated single. All our en suite rooms have sea views over the Solent and Portsmouth Harbour. Each guest room has television, hair dryer, individually controlled central heating and hospitality tray.
The Sailmaker's Loft is situated in the heart of the old town with cobbled streets, waterside bars and restaurants. The town Camber is a working quay with its marine workshops and fishing industry. Just take a short stroll along the millennium trail, inlaid into the pavement and it will lead you to most of the major attractions:- The Dockyard Heritage centre with H.M.S. Victory, The Mary Rose and H.M.S. Warrior and the Royal Naval Museum.
Nearby is also Southsea Castle where King Henry VIII watched his flagship The Mary Rose sink in 1545, The Sea Life Centre and the D Day museum. The world famous Gunwharf Quays and Spinnaker Tower offers good shopping and a whole array of speciality restaurants to suit every taste and pocket.
We are about a mile (1.6 kms) from the town station and the Hard interchange where you can take a train, coach, ferry to Gosport and even a trip round the harbour or a water taxi that will bring you back to the Sailmaker's. Spice Island, where we are situated is full of history; the place where Nelson's navy had their playground. A very rough play ground too I add but that was the nature of the times. Although it has been sanitised a lot in the last twenty years it has lost none of its charm and the panoramic views of the harbour and Solent are like an ever changing movie set.
