Highfield Cottage, Twyford, Hampshire

Highfield Cottage Bed & Breakfast is quietly set on a country lane on the edge of the ancient village of Twyford some 2 miles south of Winchester. Enjoying a lovely mature garden the house has a fine westerly outlook across the Itchen river valley beyond.

Guest accommodation is in our barn annexe which is entirely self contained. We offer two en-suite bedrooms, a double and a twin. Guests have their own entrance and have the use of a sitting room and fully fitted kitchen area, with a small terrace outside.

Decorated in simple, Scandinavian style with plenty of character, the "Barn" makes a very comfortable base for tourists or for anyone visiting on a business trip. Both bedrooms have TV's as does the sitting room with a DVD player.

Twyford is an attractive village with 2 inns a restaurant / coffee bar, a shop, pretty riverside walks and longer hikes on the South Downs way. A rail station half a mile distant, links to fast London services (60 mins) and local services to reach Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth. There are regular bus services to historic Winchester, which is 5 minutes away by car. Southampton Airport is 5 miles away.

Steeped in history as England's ancient capital, Winchester offers a spectrum of attractions all within easy walk of each other in the compact city centre dominated by the magnificent 900 year old Cathedral. The College, Great Hall,Wolvesey Castle and Jane Austen's House provide a wealth of beautifully preserved buildings. Once an important garrison there are also the military museums of the Ghurkas, Royal Green Jackets, and the Royal Hampshire Regiment. The city is also a social hub with a wide range of restaurants, bistros and comfortable pubs to relax in.

Highfield Cottage is a perfect central base for visiting the South of England. Portsmouth's naval heritage, Southampton and the New Forest, as well as Bournemouth, the Isle of Wight, Salisbury and Stonehenge and even Oxford, Chichester and Guildford are all within an hours' drive.
