Almshoe Bury Farm Bed & Breakfast, Almshoe Bury, Hitchin, Hertfordshire

Reputedly the earliest still inhabited dwelling in Hertfordshire, the house is a mid-13th century timber framed, aisled hall house with cross wings added in the 15th/16th century. At the front, the aisle walls stand to their original height. Inside, much of the hall roof survives. Also inside are fragments of the aisled structure, including a quatrefoil post, a moulded capital and remans of an arch brace with dog tooth moulding. The house is rendered and has a tiled roof and still looks much as it did in a surviving watercolour of 1804.
