West Coombe Farmhouse, Coombe Keynes, Wareham, Dorset

This former farmhouse is located in the quiet hamlet of Coombe Keynes, close to Lulworth Cove and the Isle of Purbeck. We offer our guests high quality Bed and Breakfast accommodation all the year round (except Christmas).

We are ideally situated for access to the coast, downs, forest and heathlands of Dorset, for walking, cycling, birdwatching and suchlike activities.

Local attractions include Lulworth Castle, Monkey World and the Tank Museum. There are also numerous National Trust sites close by, including Corfe Castle, Lawrence of Arabia's cottage at Clouds Hill, Thomas Hardy's birthplace at Bockhampton and, a little further away, Kingston Lacy House and Badbury Rings, near Wimborne.

The local market town is Wareham, 8 miles away; the county town of Dorchester is 13 miles, Weymouth 15 and Swanage 18. They can usually be reached quickly by road from Coombe Keynes or (with the exception of Swanage at present) by train from the station at nearby Wool.

The house dates from around 1700, but was enlarged in the nineteenth Century in Georgian style.

It faces onto the former farmyard, which we share with the owners of the former barn (now a separate house).

We have three letting bedrooms, and are limited to six guests. The double bedroom has an ensuite shower-room, and the twin has a private bathroom. (The twin beds can be zipped together into a double if required). The single room is only let in conjunction with one of the other two rooms but it can be set up as bunks if the occasion demands.

There is a separate sitting-room for our guests' use, with television, and log fires in winter. We are building up a library of books of local interest, guides and maps (which you can borrow during your stay).

Our prices include a full English breakfast, usually featuring fresh eggs from our own chickens, and home-made jams and marmalade. We do not usually provide evening meals but there are several places to eat within a few minutes' drive.

We have a fairly large garden in which our guests are welcome to relax after their day out. Closest to the house, the lawn is surrounded by well-established borders. Further away, there is a large vegetable and fruit garden where we grow most of our own produce. This is fringed by apple, pear, and plum trees and beyond, there is a small area of meadow - and the chicken run.
