Penn House Hotel, Weymouth, Dorset

David and Maureen have been running the Penn House Hotel for 20 years. David, who is a Dorset boy, is a keen fisherman (beach and boat) and loves Weymouth and the surrounding areas and also was a keen golfer.

Weymouth is a place of beauty, not only the town and the harbour, but also the surrounding areas, which includes the Jurassic coast line and its wonderful coastal foot path.

Penn House Hotel is a small guest house, but its position on Weymouth sea front is second to none. The view from some of its bedrooms across Weymouth Bay is outstanding. Penn House is situated on Brunswick Terrace and is renown for its floral decoration along to whole Terrace.

The well known writer and novelist John Cowper Powys` used to stay with his widowed mother, who lived at Penn House. John Cowper wrote Weymouth Sands. There is a Cowper Powys` society and there are many members all over the world.

We provide a traditional breakfast, but cater for any kind of breakfast on request.

Penn House is only a 10 minute walk from the train and bus stations.

Weymouth's popularity as a seaside resort is attributed to King George III who came to bathe in the sea as a health cure for his nervous disorder. Between 1789 and 1805 the King and members of the Royal Family spent fourteen holidays in Weymouth. The beach is superb and consists of sand which sweeps around the bay changing to shingle along the extended promenade. All the usual facilities are on hand, Punch & Judy, swing boats, trampolines, volleyball court and Weymouth's famous sand modeller.

Weymouth has much more to offer than just the beach. As one would expect of a coastal resort, water sports feature prominently in the list of activities. With excellent wind conditions all year round the waters of Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour are a Mecca for windsurfers and dinghy sailors, and divers come to the area to explore the wrecks lying around the coast. As one of the top angling venues in the country Weymouth offers all types of fishing, from the child's rod dangled from the pier to deep sea fishing trips which can be booked from one of the charter boats in the harbour. Golf, cycling, walking, bowling, swimming, the list of opportunity for sport is endless.
