Penygawse Guest House & Tea Rooms, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire

Welcome to Penygawse and the lovely town of Llandovery. We have been working very hard over the last year to give you the traditional welcome that is expected from such a beautiful historical town. Lynne and Allan Stather bought the premises in March 2004. The building is a grade II listed building built in 1725 and was host to a drapery store and most recently a butchery. The canopy dates to 1855 and is protected through CADW as it is of significant historical interest.

The building was in a run down state when bought and much effort and expense has been put into returning the 9-bedroom property to its original splendour.

The Victorian tea room was opened on the 27th of March 2005 with great response from tourists and locals. The Guest House has 7 rooms all of which are en-suite, with breakfast provided in the tea rooms. The building is non-smoking throughout!

We welcome all visitors to our establishment to experience our quality food and drinks and if you are planning to stay over why not lay your head down Victorian style.

The guest house comprises 7 bedrooms:

Our family room can sleep 6 comfortably, it has a 6' wide bed for couples looking for luxury. There is a 28" colour TV, DVD player and the en-suite has a 'victorian' roll-top bath.

Bedroom 2 has a 6' wide zip & link superkingsize bed which can be unzipped into two 3' wide beds. It also has a colour TV and DVD player. The en-suite is equipped with a bath so you can soak after the days exertions.

Bedroom 3 is at the rear of the property and has views across the valley. The room is fitted with a TV and DVD player. The en-suite has a spacious and powerful tower shower.

Bedroom 4 has views towards Llynwyrmwydd estate, the new home of HRH Prince of Wales, to the South. The room can sleep 3 comfortably or makes a spacious double/twin. A 17" LCD TV & DVD as well as a full en-suite bathroom make for a relaxing stay.

Bedroom 5 also enjoys the views of room 4 across rolling countryside. The room has a single bed as well as an LCD TV & DVD player and the en-suite contains a deluxe shower system.

Bedroom 6 has a king-size bed as well as LCD TV & DVD player. The room contains a hidden passageway to the adjacent property dating from around 1820 when Penygawse operated as a funeral directors.

Bedroom 7 is a double and is situated at the rear of the property. This room also contains an LCD TV & DVD player. There are several exposed beams within the room and the ceiling slopes so much in the room that we have fitted a japanese-style bed to allow for the limited headroom above.

As you would expect in a Georgian house the rooms are large and airy, they have been tastefully restored and decorated in keeping with the history of the property.

Private parking is available to residents of the guest house. We are also centrally located within the town and as such there are numerous restaurants and public houses within 5 minutes walk of the property. The train station is a ten minute walk away which affords travel to and from London (via Swansea). This route also runs north to Shrewsbury along the Heart of Wales railway line.

Breakfast is served in the Victorian tea rooms and is enhanced by a full offering of beverages which include cappuccino, latte, teas, juices etc. We offer a full cooked breakfast or a healthy fresh fruit alternative. Couple this with cereals, yogurts and breads, which are locally produced, you should be ready for whatever activities you have planned for the day.

Our Victorian tea rooms are equipped to serve you with a wide range of beverages and light snacks. The tea rooms have been designed with the age and character of the property in mind and we have been mindful of how we combine modern technology with 19th century dining - we appreciate all feedback!!
