The house was once the home of Professor Charles Wyville Thomson, a respected oceanographer who is credited with being the first person to chart all seven seas. Bo'mains is a working arable farm with a modern farmhouse built to high standards in a prime position, midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Panoramic views to the North overlook the River Forth and the historical National Trust village of Culross on the Fife coast, and to the south in the valley lies the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow. The south facing sheltered lawn is a natural suntrap. "Robert’s Room" overlooks the magnificent view towards the historic town of Linlithgow and beyond. This twin bedded room has modern hand painted fitted furniture and is enhanced by quality fabrics. The twin beds can be linked together to make a luxurious 6ft King size bed. The fully tiled en-suite shower room is cunningly concealed behind full length sliding mirrored doors. "Lorna’s Room" is a compact north facing double overlooking the Firth of Forth has the same magnificent view as from the dining room table. As in Robert’s room, this double room is complemented by luxurious hand painted furniture, which frames the bed as a feature. The shower room is fully tiled with a slate floor and the cubicle fully finished in granite. "Jim’s Room" faces south and is decorated with a lilac theme, consisting of a crown with drapes at the back of the double bed, gathered with lilac voile tiebacks, the room has tastefully beech fitted furniture to complete the feeling of comfort. The en-suite shower room is fully tiled with a slate floor. The walls of the glass fronted shower cubicle are faced with the luxury of full-length granite. "Bunty's Room" - As in Robert's Room, the twin beds can be linked together to make a luxurious king size bed. The theme of this burgundy and gold room is complimented by mahogany furniture. Two windows, one to the north overlooking the River Forth and to the south, the lovely view of the historic town of Linlithgow and the hills beyond. A shower room of luxury consists of a theme of black, white and silver. "Rebecca's Room" is a fabulous gold room with panoramic view facing the north overlooking the River Forth, occasionally with shipping going up and down, and facing the west with views exquisite as far away as 20 miles up river to Stirling. This ground floor family room has a double and single bed with space for an additional single. A private shower and toilet can go in conjunction with this room. Whitecroft is ideally situated whether you are on holiday or on business. We are surrounded by farmland yet close to Edinburgh city only a 20 minute drive by car and only a 5 minute drive by car to Livingston and central to all motorway links. All three of our ensuite rooms at Whitecroft are colour co-ordinated with central heating througout and are cleaned to a very high standard. We have one double room and two twin rooms. The garden is well looked after by Douglas and Lorna, and if we haven't got a spade in our hands, it's a paintbrush. You can relax in our gazebo with a bottle of wine at the end of your day as the sun sets for the night. Enjoy your breakfast in the dining room at your own individual table, while Lorna cooks your breakfast, which will last you all day (generous portions). From the buffet you can enjoy fruit juice, Iced water, grapefruit, prunes, yoghurt, selection of cereals and traditional Scottish oatmeal porridge. All meals are served with toast and freshly brewed tea and coffee. All jams are home made. Douglas and Lorna extend a warm Scottish welcome to Whitecroft where all rooms are on ground level with central heating throughout. A regular bus service picks up guests from outside the main driveway and transports them to Princes street, the heart of Edinburgh city. The train station is also nearby, a 10 minute car drive. There is a Park & Ride facility 5 miles towards Edinburgh where you can park your car free all day and evening. A frequent bus service takes you into the City Centre for £1 each way. Almondell Country Park is on our back door with beautiful country walks along by the river Almond. There are many restaurants nearby some of which are within walking distance into the village as Whitecroft is on the outskirts of East Calder.
