Just 15 minutes from the bustle of Brighton and 15 minutes from Gatwick off the A23 London to Brighton, idyllically situated in the picturesque village of Hurspierpoint by the South Downs, we offer our fully licensed bar and deluxe en-suite bed and breakfast accommodation.
The Vinyard Lodge is now 200 years old and grade 2 listed. Established since 1988 the building, famous in the early 1900's, was know as the South Down Tea Gardens.
Hurstpierpoint is one of the prettiest of historic Sussex villages. Surrounded by unspoilt countryside, villagers of all ages have the best of rural life, yet also thoroughly enjoy meeting visitors. Whether you are on holiday, need a respite from working away from home, or just escaping for the day from more hectic places, from London to Brighton and beyond, you are sure to be welcome here.
Mentioned in the Doomsday Book, the name Hurstpierpoint is a mixture of the Saxon name for a wood: Hurst, and Pierpoint after the Pierpoint family who arrived with William the Conqueror in 1066. They settled here under their powerful relative, William de Warenne, Lord of the Rape of Lewes. The village has grown steadily since the early 19th Century. Today as you walk around the village, there are many old interesting buildings to enjoy, as well as shops to visit, where the proprietors, like us, offer friendly, personal service. Here you will find village life as it should be.
We have six ensuite bedrooms - one executive, two double and three twin. All rooms come with colour televisions, tea and coffee making facilities and free wireless internet. Three rooms look over the pretty village garden and three have views of Wolstonbury Hill and the South Downs.
Guests have their own key to the separate accommodation entrance and can come and go as they please. Full English breakfast is served in our restaurant at a time to suit you. In the summer, you can sit in the garden over a leisurely breakfast and enjoy the complimentary newpapers.
Children are welcome and either a cot or a camp bed can be put up in some of the rooms. We have a large, completely enclosed garden with a children's play area. Washbrooks Farm with its tea rooms, adventure playground and many animals is just five minutes walk away.
