Footshill House is an Edwardian Village House in the village of Quidhampton, on the outskirts of the Cathedral City of Salisbury. The small market town of Wilton lies a similar distance to the west. Footshill House is an excellent base for exploring the many visitor attractions in the area. Salisbury Cathedral and Close, Old Sarum, Stonehenge and Wilton House are all within easy access. The stone circled village of Avebury, Silbury Hill and Kennet Long Barrow are only a short journey away. The New Forest, the South Coast, the City of Bath, Longleat, Beaulieu, with its National Car Museum and the beautiful gardens of Stourhead, are all under an hours drive. The area is ideal for walking, horse riding, fishing and cycling. Salisbury Race Course, and the South Wilts Golf Course are just a five minutes drive from Footshill House. Salisbury has an excellent Play House, Cinema and City Hall, providing first class entertainment. The city has a great many good pubs and restaurants to choose from. Quidhampton has a regular bus service to and from Salisbury and Wilton, and taxis are readily available. There are two excellent village pubs nearby, serving good food in warm and friendly surroundings. The White Horse Inn is a short walk from Footshill House house and the Victoria and Albert is in the nearby village of Netherhampton under a mile away. Footshill House is set in pleasant gardens and has private off road parking. In good weather guests are welcome to enjoy the garden, and we are happy to serve a "pot of tea" on the terrace on arrival. Chetcombe House is an elegant and cosy country house set in an acre of lovely gardens and located just a few minutes’ walking distance from the centre of the charming Wiltshire town of Mere. It is the home of Sandra Rose and Jerry Meyer who do everything possible to ensure guests have an enjoyable and relaxing stay. The house was built in 1937 and provides an excellent standard of accommodation with 5 en-suite bedrooms (1 x family room, 3 x double rooms and 1 x twin room) all of which have television and tea/coffee making facilities. Wifi broadband internet access is available throughout the house. Hospitality trays include home made cookies and cakes, and handmade toiletries are provided in the bathrooms. The gardens face south giving wonderful views to Shaftesbury and the Blackmore Vale, an area made famous in the novels of Thomas Hardy. Breakfast is served each morning in the dining room/guest lounge overlooking the gardens and includes fresh fruit, yoghurts, juice, toast, muesli and cereals together with a choice of tea or coffee. A traditional English cooked breakfast is always available and on most days alternatives are offered (such as American pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup, or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs). The town of Mere dates back to Saxon times and has been part of the Duchy of Cornwall for centuries. Richard Earl of Cornwall built a castle in the town in the first half of the 13th century – the castle no longer exists but the site now provides a splendid viewpoint across the beautiful surrounding countryside. Mere offers some lovely walks and is on the route of the Wiltshire cycle way. Much of the area around the town is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
