Lowther House is a tranquil bed and breakfast at Newbridge in North Yorkshire. As well as offering homely accommodation in beautiful surroundings, it also has a tea garden on site which is open to both residents and non-residents. Newbridge is a short drive from Pickering and close to many of North Yorkshire’s attractions.
Our stone house is 200 years old and stands on part of the Duchy of Lancaster Estate. It is set at the end of a long drive, in a clearing of the Pickering Woods. The location gives it a real country feel, whilst being only a 15 minute walk to Pickering town centre.
We have three guest rooms available, all of which have been tastefully decorated and furnished. They have private shower rooms and lovely views of the surrounding nature. Our guest rooms include:
Refreshment tray with a selection of teas, coffee and biscuits
Slice of homemade cake on arrival.
DVD player and large selection of DVDs.
Fans in hot weather and electric blankets in cooler months.
Free Wi-Fi internet access.
Please note in the summer months we struggle to get TV reception. This is due to the proximity to the ridge which is full of trees whose leaves block the signal. Our aim has been to create a place where you can rest and relax, away from the stresses of modern day living.
As well as our rooms, guests are very welcome to enjoy our gardens which we are very proud of. Come and relax by the babbling beck in our tea garden. We have full shade, semi-shade and full sun seating available as well as pergolas and umbrellas if there is a light drizzle. We feel that our garden is beautiful all year round. Enjoy a cream tea, slice of homemade cake and a brew all in the comfort of the grounds of the accommodation. Train enthusiasts will be glad to know that the North York Moors Railway runs quite close to the garden and steam trains pass by many times a day. We also have a host of wildlife and birds visiting the garden. We are a short walk from Pickering so why not visit us for lunch or a light snack.
Breakfast and dinner are available (dinner to be booked in advance). Guests can enjoy their meal in our stylish Jack Vettriano themed dining room at their own table. For guests who wish to, this room is available to sit and browse through the books on the shelves or to play games - we have quite a few (we love games so have even put some in the rooms!!). Our evening menu changes every month, ensuring we are offering our guests the best in seasonal produce. We are happy to cater to any dietary requirements so please do advise when booking. Please bear in mind that we are not licensed to sell alcohol, but you are very welcome to bring your favourite tipple with you to enjoy.
Stepping outside our gate you are already at the start of one of the many local walks. You can walk right into the North York Moors National Park from here. There are 'back in time' experiences like Beck Isle Museum, Ryedale Folk Museum at Hutton le Hole, Eden Camp and of course the most popular attraction for visitors to Pickering - The North York Moors Railway with the station just a ten minute walk away (view the trains from our garden). 23 miles South West you will be in the historic city of York with endless things to see and do. If you wish to visit coastal seaside towns, you can choose between Whitby or Scarborough both have a historic interest in the Abbey at Whitby and Scarborough Castle and a history of fishing,
